Dinner for two by candlelight, complete with wine, is very romantic. This is especially true when a romantic dinner is on Valentine’s Day and Italian food I served. Valentine’s Day is well known for being a day of romance, but not everyone is familiar with Valentine’s Day’s origins.
The History Of Valentine’s Day
While you would think that Valentine’s Day, the day of love, would have simple origins, it really isn’t all that easy to figure out where the holiday actually began. There are at least three saints in the Roman Catholic Church that have either the name Valentine or Valentinus. It is not sure if they were involved in original Valentine’s Days. There is a legend of a priest by the name of Valentine married soldiers even though Emperor Claudius II made a decree against it. It is has been told that once the Emperor found out, he had the priest killed. Another legend that is told is of Valentine sending his first message of love while in prison. Regardless as to which of these legends are true, Valentine’s Day has become a romantic holiday with which Italian food matches quite well.
On Valentine’s Day, in Italy, unmarried women awaken at sunrise to look out of the window to see who the first man to pass their window will be. It is said that this man will be their true love and they will marry him within a year.
Engagements are common on Valentine’s Day. In addition to hearts and roses, Cupid is a symbol of Valentine’s Day and Cupid is a symbol of love. Cupid is a cherub who shoots lovers with enchanted arrows that cause them to fall in love.
An Italian Dinner
There are a lot of romantic traditions that include food. This could be as simple as eating dinner at a favorite Italian restaurant or cooking a favorite Italian meal together at home. There are also a lot of people who believe that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Even if you don’t believe this, cooking with or someone can still show them just how much you really do care about them and it can bring you closer. This is especially true if you are not the type of person who normally cooks dinner. Of course, this may mean that your cooking skills are somewhat lacking, in which case you should know that it could be just as romantic to bring food home from an Italian restaurant to enjoy together. In this case, energy can be used to set a beautiful and romantic dinner
Romantic Foods
Some of the foods that are considered romantic or foods of love that you can include in your Italian dinner are actually natural aphrodisiacs. They are:
- Caviar
- Champagne
- Chocolate
- Cloves
- Dill
- Garlic
- Ginger
- Ginseng
- Grapes
- Nutmeg
- Nuts
- Oysters
- Radishes
- Rosemary
- Shrimp
- Tomatoes
- Truffles
- Vanilla
If you will be creating your own romantic menu this Valentine’s Day, then you should think about adding some of these foods. Many of these ingredients are actually already found in Italian food. Whenever you couple it with a bottle of wine or champagne, some candles and a little chocolate you will be in for a real romantic dinner. Don’t forget the card and grab the camera to take a few photos to remember your dinner by.
If you choose to go out for an Italian Valentine’s Day dinner or order out to eat your Valentine’s Day dinner at home you can go to a local Italian restaurant like Mama Jennie’s Italian Restaurant, in Florida, for authentic Italian food.
