Quick and Easy Italian Cooking Tips

garlicSome people will tell you that it will take you years to master the art form of Italian cooking.  These people probably just don’t want you to know the secrets that they use to quickly and easily make delicious Italian food!

Here are three quick and easy tips that will help you make all of your Italian meals even more delicious.

1.            Oven Roasted Garlic

Garlic is an inexpensive food that quickly and easily adds a lot of flavor to your food.

  • Slice the top of the garlic off.
  • Drizzle two teaspoons of olive oil over the garlic.
  • Wrap the garlic loosely in aluminum foil and roast it at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 40 minutes.
  • Take the pulp out of the garlic by simply squeezing it after it cools.

This can be stored in your refrigerator for up to one week.

2.            Bechamel Sauce

Another delicious Italian sauce that you will enjoy using in pasta dishes is Bechamel sauce.

  • 2 Tablespoons of unsalted butter
  • 3 Tablespoons of flour
  • 1 ½ cups of milk
  • 1/8 teaspoon of nutmeg
  • Freshly ground salt and white pepper

Once you have all of your ingredients gathered together, you will need to:

  • Heat the milk in a saucepan just until it is warm.
  • Melt the butter in a saucepan until it is bubbling.
  • Slowly add the flour while using a wooden spoon to stir it constantly.
  • Return the mixture to a medium heat and add ¼ cup of milk at a time.  Once the milk is absorbed you can add a little more until you use all of the milk.
  • Add the nutmeg, salt and pepper.
  • Continue stirring the sauce, as it slowly bubbles, until it is the same consistency as heavy cream.

3.            Memphis Rub

If you are look for a zesty rub to bring out the best in your meat, you will want to try this.  In order to make it you will need:

  • ¼ cup of paprika
  • 1 tablespoon of packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of salt
  • 2 teaspoons of monosodium glutamate
  • 1 teaspoon of celery salt
  • 1 teaspoon of ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of dry mustard
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon of onion powder

After you gather all of your ingredients you will need to combine them in a small container.  Now you can use it to add some delicious flavor to your meat.
